چکیده

treatment with carbenoxolone sodium resulted in thc increase of free and bound sialic acids to those values found in normal subjects, but no increase above control values was observed. The work now reported shows that treatment of normal adult rats with carbenoxolone results in significant increases in a number of components of the gastric mucus and mucosa. This may be related to the mechanism of the ulcer-healing action of the drug, and may provide a biological model for the evaluation of ulcer-healing potential. The present evidence indicates that the. major effect of carbenoxolone is on the carbohydrate moieties of glycoprotein and their incorporation into mucus.

Susceptibility to chlordecone-carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity and lethality is both age and sex dependent.

The present paper examines the susceptibility to chlordecone (Kepone, CD) and carbon tetrachloride across different ages (35, 45, and 63-days-old) in male and female Sprague-Dawley rats using different lengths of time on a CD diet (10 ppm). The principal findings are that the hepatotoxicity and mortality associated with CD-CCl4 interaction is highly age-dependent for both sexes. There was marke...

Antagonism of cocaine-induced hepatotoxicity by the alpha adrenergic antagonists phentolamine and yohimbine.

The ability of the alpha adrenoreceptor antagonists phentolamine and yohimbine to antagonize cocaine-induced hepatotoxicity was determined in phenobarbital-induced B6C3/F1 mice. Hepatotoxicity was assessed by the histologic extent of necrosis, incidence of latent lethality and increases in serum alanine aminotransferase activity. The depression of hepatic glutathione levels also were measured. ...

Licochalcone A Upregulates Nrf2 Antioxidant Pathway and Thereby Alleviates Acetaminophen-Induced Hepatotoxicity

Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose-induced fatal hepatotoxicity is majorly characterized by overwhelmingly increased oxidative stress while enhanced nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is involved in prevention of hepatotoxicity. Although Licochalcone A (Lico A) upregulates Nrf2 signaling pathway against oxidative stress-triggered cell injury, whether it could protect from APAP-induce...

Induction of metallothionein as an adaptive mechanism affecting the magnitude and progression of toxicological injury.

Pretreatment of rats with low doses of Cd produces adaptive tolerance to a subsequent high dose of Cd-induced lethality, thus shifting the dose-response curve to the right. Cd pretreatment of animals also protects against the hepatotoxicity produced by high doses of Cd. This protection is attributable to the 10- to 50-fold induction of hepatic metallothionein (MT) by Cd pretreatment. As a resul...
